Is Hell Endothermic or Exothermic

I'm sure many of you have seen this before (I know I have), but I just got in my email again today and was highly amused, so I thought I ought to share it with all of you .
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term.

The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared itwith colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now havethe pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic(absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law(gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate ofchange of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2 If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"

Remember to Seed on a P2P network

Here are my sharing ratios on a popular bittorrent tracker and on uTorrent for the last month or so:

Goodwill, and the will to share, and reciprocate is what the entire p2p network runs on.
p2p file transfers are responsible for atlease 80% of the traffic on the internet.(That's a weak estimate).

Also sharing files on a peer2peer network is completely voluntary, there is usually no personal gain in seeding files, still so many(believe me, there is huge number(including you)), who always do it.

This gives a wonderful insight on the human mind. Left free, without too many regualtions, on their own consceince, humans generally tend to do more good than bad.
(Of course there always are the odd exceptions, but that is just probability).

Hence we can conclude that men, usually are of a helpful nature, and left on their own, they will tend to help their needy among them.

Another good examples of this theory are :

Wikipedia - The most comprehensive encyclopedia on the web, runs totally on user-written articles. This means that me, and you can write new articles, even edit the old one if we have something more to say. Of course, there is a panel of admins and mods who regulate the changes, so it'd be of no effect to just delete an article, or spam it.

As always, we do have the odd spammer, but it is quite possible to weed them out, and more good than bad is done.

So before I get completely lost, all I wanted to convey here, is that on a P2P network, seeding is as important as leeching. Seed all the files to atleast a ratio of 1. Seed small files which you use often to a ratio of 3-5.

Help and keep the scene alive. =)

All the best and Happy Sharing.

Windows XP Hidden Applications

If you are not new with Windows XP, you must have noticed there are several applications which are available in C:\windows, and C:\windows\system32. Some of them are not available anywhere else, so many people dont know about them. If you learn to use them correctly, they can be very useful. Here are a few useful ones, in order of importance for the average user. Do try to experiment with them.

To run any of these apps go to Start -> Run and type the executable name, for example: charmap

WINDOWS XP HIDDEN APPLICATIONS:

1. System configuration = msconfig.exe (can use to control starup programs)

2. Character Map = charmap.exe (very useful for finding unusual characters)

3. Registry Editor = regedt32.exe [also regedit.exe] (for hacking the Windows Registry).

4. Clipboard Viewer = clipbrd.exe (views contents of Windows clipboard)

5. Dr Watson = drwtsn32.exe (Troubleshooting tool)

6. DirectX diagnosis = dxdiag.exe (Diagnose & test DirectX, video & sound cards)

7. Private character editor = eudcedit.exe (allows creation or modification of characters)

8. IExpress Wizard = iexpress.exe (Create self-extracting / self-installing package)

9. Windows Media Player 5.1 = mplay32.exe (Retro version of Media Player, very basic).

10. System Monitor = perfmon.exe (very useful, highly configurable tool, tells you everything you ever wanted to know about any aspect of PC performance, for uber-geeks only )

11. Program Manager = progman.exe (Legacy Windows 3.x desktop shell).

12. Remote Access phone book = rasphone.exe (documentation is virtually non-existant).

13. Disk Cleanup = cleanmgr.exe

14. Volume Control = sndvol32.exe (I've included this for those people that lose it from the System Notification area).

15. System Configuration Editor = sysedit.exe (modify System.ini & Win.ini just like in Win98)

16. Mcft Telnet Client = telnet.exe

17. Windows for Workgroups Chat = winchat.exe (appears to be an old NT utility to allow chat sessions over a LAN, help files available).

The complete list is longer, but most are useless, or have better substitutes, so I have included only the most useful ones. If you have any more, please share.

Working with Adsense: (Dis)Functionality

Disclaimer: The following post may appear to be confusing, idiotic, incorrect, etc to most people. And I bet it is. Dont read it, I just included it for including's sake.(huh?)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's yet another tip about the Google Adsense system(as if you hadnt enough of these from the net already). If you have mixed posts in your blog/website, and try to include high paying keywords on your blog, which dont match your blog header and title, Adsense doesnt display any ads related to that at all. This is a result of a random experiment from my side.

Here's the original post that I included:

/*=============================================================

Lawyers Buy Real Estate.

A recent survey shows that lawyers from across the United States invest all most all of their exorbitant fees in Real Estate. This is further proof to the booming nature of the real estate market. No lawyer was available for comment. Meanwhile, I'm off to buy real estate too.

==============================================================*/

This ended up with no ads for an hour(probably adsense was confused(?)), and after some(a lot) time, I ended up with completely non-blog related ads. Presently my blog is filled with Linux ads, and I havent included the word "Linux" even once in the whole blog.

Funny eh? This just goes to show that no one is perfect(not even google(shit)).

Anonymous Surfing: How to use a free proxy

Would it be nice to surf anonymously on the web, so that no one can trace you again? How wonderful it'd be. And now it's possible. Using free proxies, you can surf anonymously through the web and never get caught. And it just takes a couple of minutes to set it up. Here is how it's done:

1. Go to a website that provides free proxies. There are many of them. A few good ones

  • www.proxyblind.org
You can find many, many more on google.

Lets use http://www.proxy4free.com

2. So go there.

3. Now click on the link that says "proxy list".

4. Search for one for your country. For India, proxies for India, Pakistan, and sometimes even China work.

5. Note the port: 80, or 8080 or whatever it is.

6. Now open your browser.

  • If you use firefox:
  1. Click on the Tools menu->Options->Advanced->Network(Tab)->Settings.
  2. Click on the Radio button for "Manual Proxy Configuration"
  3. Enter your proxy(whatever it is) in the box. It should be something like 59.xx.xxx.xx, or something simlar
  4. Enter the port(80 or 8080 or whatever it is).
  5. Click Ok
  • If you use Internet explorer
  1. Read this carefully. Internet explorer sucks. It has absolutely no protection against spyware, malware, and all sorts of atrocious-ware.(=p)
  2. So dont use it(except for checking you BSNL account usage(but you can install a firefox add-on to do that from Firefox too(more about this later)))
  3. Download it from the link on the right ===> or from a friend or from someones else's affliate link. I dont care, as long as you get it. There are many reasons why you should get firefox, and I'm gonna write a post about it soon.
So now that you are on a proxy, "piracy is your birthright(sic)". Enjoy your new found anonymity.

PS: You can use a proxy with uTorrent too to make your P2P downloads anonymous too, but no one cares about that, so as long as you have a HTTP proxy, I dont think you should need anything else(except if you are a l33t, but then you wouldn't have been reading this post.)

My Download Speeds on BSNL Broadband

More proof that my techniques work better than anyones.

These are my download speeds in uTorrent using a BSNL Broadband Home 500 plan. And i get it consistently for about 16 hrs a day, speeds upward of 125 KBps(KiloBYTE per second).
My neighbour gets speeds of about 50 KBps before i showed him my tricks.

What are Torrents. How to download anything from the internet - free

Speed Up Adobe Acrobat Reader

This trick makes Adobe Reader(for .pdf files) load almost as fast as notepad(Honest!)

It is one of my all-time favourite tricks!

It took me far too many years to finally get sick of how slow Adobe Acrobat loads PDF files. It was taking between 10 and 30 seconds to load a single file. How could this be? Well, I found a solution and I highly recommend it to everyone, everywhere - it’s that good.

Every time you run Adobe Acrobat up to 20 plugins are loaded unnecessarily - most users do not need even a fraction of them!

To disable unneeded plugins and make them optional instead, follow these instructions:

  1. Install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat - you can get it here
  2. Browse to the plugins folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\plug_ins
  3. Create a new folder named Optional
  4. Move all files from the plug_ins folder to Optional, except EWH32.api, print*.api, and Search*.api
That’s it! Load any PDF in Adobe Acrobat to see the difference!

You might also want to use the FoxIt pdf reader, which is faster, and more efficient.

Speed Up Torrent Downloads

So do you use torrents do download anything you want? Well, I do too. If you dont know what torrents are, man, you need to grow up. Click here to know more about them.

Anyways, this post is about speeding up torrent downloads. It's written by a friend, with an occasional edit from me. This is probably the best torrent help file ever made available. Hope you like it.

1. Hack the max half-open TCP connections

If you’re on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This might hurt your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to as much peers as you want. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it could cripple your torrent downloads.

A nice way to fix this is to download this patch (mirror).

Note: Some people report that their antivir reports the patch to be a Virus, This is not the case. Check out http://www.lvllord.de/ for more details on this

The patch allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok (more is NOT always better).

Next you need to configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections

µTorrent: Options > Preferences > Advanced options > net.max_halfopen. Then set it(
net.max_halfopen) to 80.

Bitcomet: Options > Preferences > Connection > max half-open TCP. Set it to 80.

Now you’re ready to go…

A third point of interest is that some “windows updates” revert your tweaked tcp connections back to 10. So it’s wise to check this every now and then. You can check this by going to (in windows xp) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System… Look for event 4226 (sort by event).

If there are a lot of daily occurences it’s likely that the max amount of half-open tcp connections was set back to 10. Or you’re infected with some nasty spyware…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Torrent Client Configuration

In order to apply these tips you need to know your maximum up- and download speed. You can test your bandwidth over here (stop all download activity while testing). Also make sure that you applied the tips provided in our previous posts.

Note that there’s a difference between kb/s (kilobits/second) and kB/s (kilobytes/second). To be precise, kB/s = kb/s divided by 8. In this tutorial we use kB/s (like most torrent clients do). This means that you might need to calculate your max speed in kB/s yourself if the speedtest only gives you the results in kb\s (so divide by 8 then).

Settings 1-4 can be found in the options, settings or preference tab of most torrent clients.

1. Maximum upload speed

Probably the most important setting there is. Your connection is (sort of) like a pipeline, if you use you maximum upload speed there’s not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.

Use the following formula to determine your optimal upload speed…

CODE

80% of your maximum upload speed

so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal upload rate is 32kB/s

But keep seeding!

2. Maximum download speed

Although setting your maximum download speed to unlimited may sound interesting, in reality it will only hurt your connection. If you still want to be able to browse properly, set your maximum download speed to:

CODE

95% of your maximum download speed

so if your maximum download speed is 400 kB/s, the optimal download speed is 380kB/s

3. Maximum connected peers per torrent

Yet another setting that you don’t want to max out. I experimented quite a lot with the max connected peers settings and came to the conclusion that both high and low number hurt the download speed of a torrent. The following setting worked best for me.

CODE

upload speed * 1.3

so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal amount of connected peers per torrent is

CODE

40 * 1.3 = 52

I didn’t noticed a difference for fast or slow connections here.

4. Maximum upload slots

CODE

1 + (upload speed / 6)

so if your maximum upload speed is 30 kB/s, the optimal number of upload slots is

CODE

1 + (30 / 6) = 6

3. More Tips

Check seeds and peers
A simple tip, but very important. Always look for torrents with the best seed/peer ratio. The more seeds (compared to peers) the better (in general). So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. So, be selective.

Change the default port.
By default, bittorrent uses a port 6881-6999. Bittorrent generates a lot traffic (1/3), so isp’s like to limit the connection offered on the these ports. So, you should change these to another range. Good clients allow you to do this, just choose anything you like. If you’re behind a router, make sure you have your ports forwarded (portforward.com) or UPnP enabled.

Disable Windows Firewall
It sucks. Windows Firewall hates P2P and often leads a life of it’s own. So disable it and get yourself a decent (free) firewall, Kerio or Zone Alarm for example.

Turn on Encryption
Encrypting your torrents will prevent throttling ISP’s from limiting your bittorrent traffic. Check out how to enable encryption in Azureus, µtorrent, and Bitcomet, the three most popular torrent clients.

Optimize your internet connection
The TCP optimizer is a freeware utility that optimizes your internet connection. I found it very useful and it helped speeding up my connection for regular internet activity and for downloading torrents. Just download it, and move the slidebar to your maximum download rate (note that it’s in kb/s). Don’t try to set it higher because that will hurt your download speeds!

Last but not least… Buy a faster connection…

Happy Torrenting!

PS: If you want faster and better connections, you know whom to contact.

Increase your Internet Browsing speed

Here are some tried and tested(by me) tips to increase your internet Browsing Speed.
They are sure to work. See how many you know about, and comment if you know any better ones :). Originally posted by a friend "somewhere", but hell they work, so that's nothing no one can complain about.

To increase ur BB speed do the following steps :
1) check the quality of cabling for any distortion.( ideally ur BSNL telephone will give a clear sound )
2) check the firmware of ur router/modem (from manufacturer wesite) which should be latest
3)Hard reset ur modem/router for 15sec.
4)Try using a static DNS address (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)
5)Also, there’s nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes. This also affects your Broadband peformance. You can get back this 20% as follows:
Click Start–>Run–>type “gpedit.msc” without the “
This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy–>Computer Configuration–>Administrative Templates–>Network–>QOS Packet Scheduler–>
Limit Reservable Bandwidth
Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab :
“By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this
setting to override the default.”
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.
This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.
6) Identify the IRQ used by the NIC/USB modem

Open the System Information tool by running MSINFO32.EXE from the Run command.
Expand System Summary > Hardware Resources > IRQs.
Look for the listing made for your NIC (in my case - a Intel® PRO/100+ Management Adapter). Note the IRQ next to the specified line (in my case - IRQ21)
AFTER THAT!!
Modify the system.ini file

Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the Run command.
Expand the system.ini file window.
Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type IrqX=4096 where X is the designated IRQ number we found in step #1, in my case it’s IRQ21.

Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!

Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.
Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.

7) USE DAP
8) Use opera browser by blocking images and gif animation ! This will save ur Bandwidth by 40%. ( u will be able to surf more in less bandwidth/Mb of usage)

Change your BSNL Dataone Password

So many people who use BSNL DataOne Broadband connection ask me how to check their account usage and change their password. So much phishing and phreaking is going on nowadays, that it is probable, that your BSNL account has been cracked by someone, and they're using it for free(making you pay the bills). So if you havent changed your password yet, DO IT NOW. And dont think "IT CANT HAPPEN TO ME". Coz it can, and it does. So here is the procedure to change your DataOne password, and/or check your BSNL Account usage...

1. Open Internet Explorer(Firefox wont work(Yeah, BSNL Sux) and type in http://10.240.224.195/webLogin.jsp.

2. Enter your username and password. Press

3. Click on Service Records. Select the month, and there you have the Account usage details(with timing and data transfer).

To change the password,

1. Repeat (1) and (2) above.

2. Click on change password, and you can do it from here.

3. Dont forget to logout after you're done.

AGLOCO: Earn money while surfing the web, guaranteed

Say, for how many hours do you surf the web in a month, 30?40? The point is that you obviously do it for more than 5 hours. And you pay for it too...Wouldn't it be nice if someone paid you for surfing the net? Yup, thats true, and thats what AGLOCO(A GLObal COmmunity) is all about.

All you have to do is a simple signup, which takes less than a couple of minutes, and your ready to go.

This is how it works: You signup, and get a simple "viewbar" in your browser like a toolbar(dont you already use a Google/yahoo toolbar? - they dont pay you do they), and let the cash pile up while you surf your account. Even if you just signup, get the toolbar, and forget it, you get paid $10 -$20 a month, for absolutely no work on your part.
But here the best part, if you refer three members, who in turn refer 3 others each, then your earnings multiply wildly, to about $450 a month, possibly more.

Let me say that this is not just another MLM(MultiLevel Marketing) ploy, or another fake pyramid scheme.
In fact, AGLOCO's predecessor (Alladvantage.com) paid out over $120 million to its members (this is what finally convinced me). But the idea was too ahead of it's time, and the internet hadn't spread into every nook and crony of the world.

But now it has, and this is possible. So what are you waiting for, click here and get your free account now.

Even Bill Gates has said that Google will have to watch out for AGLOCO in the future.
Eventually, it has been predicted that almost every user will join up, and so will you.

PS: If you are still least bit skeptical, dont join, you're the one who will regret it later...If all those raw stats didn't work on your brain, god knows what will; just go away.

On the other hand, if you do want to join =), welcome, hope you have a great browsing experience.

*Update: AGLOCO now serves over 3,710,000 search results in Google, 1,000,000 more than two months ago.

Don't miss out! Sign up now, so you can get a head start in the potential earnings.

Rapidshare cheats and hacks

So do you use rapidshare? So do I.
You don't have a premium account? Well, neither do I.
You keep begging for rapidshare premium accounts? Well, I dont.
And you need not either.
Just use these simple tips and tricks, and hacks, and make life easier...

Tricks to download more than your download limit will allow you to:

1. Change your dynamic IP adress:

Well most of our Internet Service Providers(BSNL Dataone, Tata, UWorld, Airtel, etc), provide us with dynamic IP addresses.

RapidShare limits free users, based on their IP address, to certain download limit, and after reaching the limit, RapidShare will block your IP address. To overcome RapidShare download limit, since it’s based on IP address, the techniques to change or mask the IP address will come in useful to hack the RapidShare.

There are several ways to change your IP address (or at least showing different IP address to RapidShare). Whatever ways, you need to clear your web browser’s cookies first.

1. Request new IP address from ISP (for dynamic IP address Internet users only)

1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type cmd in the Open box, then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, run the following commands one by one:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit
4. Try to download from RapidShare again.
5. Note: It’s possible to put all the commands above into a batch file and simply run the batch file to complete the IP changing process. To create the batch file, use Edit in command prompt or Notepad, copy and paste the above commands into the editor, and save the file with extension of .bat or .cmd (for Notepad, change the File Type to All File too).

2. Use a proxy server, or a different proxy server

You can get a list of available public proxy server easily by searching “proxy server” in search engine such as Google or Yahoo!. Choose a proxy server and note down its IP address and port number.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings. Select (check) the option of Use a proxy server for your LAN. Then key in the proxy server IP address and port in respective box. Click OK to continue.

In Mozilla Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Connection Settings. Then select (click) Manual proxy configuration and key in proxy server information. Click OK to continue.

Obviously, once you hit the download limit, you will need to change the proxy server again. There are tools that help you to switch the proxy server automatically. In Internet Explorer, try Steganos Internet Anonym 2006 from Steganos or Hide IP from V7soft. In Firefox, use the SwitchProxy extension. Both software allow you to change the proxy server easily, with just few clicks.

Hacking: What does it really mean?

Most of us are really confused about what "hacking" really implies....
Well, the term itself is rather indeterminate in exact meaning, but here's a standard definition:
"Hacking is an act of penetrating computer systems to gain knowledge about the system and how it works."

90% of the hacking is non-malevolent, and just a way to learn more. This is the way to go and possibly the only way to master your craft.

Technically, a hacker is someone who is enthusiastic about computer programming and all things relating to the technical workings of a computer. Under such a definition, I would gladly brand myself a hacker. However, most people understand a hacker to be what is more accurately known as a 'cracker'

Crackers are people who try to gain unauthorized access to computers. This is normally done through the use of a 'backdoor' program installed on your machine. A lot of crackers also try to gain access to resources through the use of password cracking software, which tries billions of passwords to find the correct one for accessing a computer.

So you succesfuly got through the anti-porn software that your dad installed, or did you beat your school computer which prevents social-networking sites(orkut, facebook, etc)? Congrats, you are on your way to become a hacker, though not quite there yet. The most important attributes required here are:
1. The dire hunger to learn more and more, and more all the time.
2. Patience, and hard-work.

What I wanted to convey through this post, is that hacking is not like they show in TV(a 12 yr old kid phreaking into Ambani's account in a couple of minutes), but it sure is fun; so don't misuse what you have, dont be a snob(like me), and keep that curiosity alive.
